MAY QUEEN MARGARET CURRY 1934 The two previous queens had both served as a Guard of Honour before becoming queen. Queen Margaret has the distinction of assuming the throne without any previous involvement. It does seem to be a distinction . In her own court was Dale Eriksen (now Mrs. Dan McGowan) as Maid of Honour and with her eye on the throne. Two sisters, Dorothy and Louise Messinger are Guards of Honour, but it is a younger Messinger girl, Mary, who would be queen in 1942. The Crown Bearer, Gladys Wilson, was also to be queen, her turn coming in 1938. Some girls seem drawn to such activities, although the luck of the draw would determine which became queen. The Fletcher family, of beautiful baby fame, was to have its first representative in this year. Doreen, who served as a Flower Girl, led off a wave of Fletcher appearances, five in the 1930's and three more in the 1940's. There was not so much opportunity for the male side. Reid Mitchell did serve a second year as page. There must have been some problem in head office as his father, Jimmy Mitchell, had to double up and serve as both Master of Ceremonies and Committee Chairman. As for the platform, the idea of the canopy was well received. In this year, it was also included, but enlarged so that it covered the Queen and both her Maids. And in the official picture, there are definitely three thrones. Lastyear the Maids of Honour might have been sitting on plain chairs but not this year. h^oJiga/ieX CuAAy 1934 Q.aeen Vale.
