WEST VANCOUVER COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL As you all know, the Arts Council has been attempting to get the use of the Pauline Johnson building as an Arts Activities Centre. The History Society would be included, retaining the room we presently occupy. The original intention was to seek Pauline Johnson only for the short term, pending the erection of a permanent home for the arts. Two factors have changed that. One is that the necessary changes would involve a fairly substantial cost. The other is that the changes would preclude future use of the building as a school. Actually there are three - the third factor being the location, as there is no better or more convenient site available for an Arts Centre. A meeting is planned sometime in January among the Council, the School Board and the Arts Council, at which the future use of the building will be discussed. It may well be that the School Board has plans for the building and will not release it, in which case the Arts Coucnil will no doubt ask for a new building on some other location. 3. PROJECT FOR 1985 - A PORTRAIT COLLECTION OF EARLY INHABITANTS Up to this point the Society has been collecting photographs and snapshots of people and places in West Vancouver. Hugh Johnston has suggested that, as a special project, we try to collect studio portraits of old timers in West Vancouver. Most families have such pictures taken, generally to mark special events. If the original is not immediately available, the Society will undertake to have copies made. Can you contribute?
