DUNDARAVE SCHOOL? ^ot.r\clarav^e S<Lhcol iV /?2-/ In volume I, Issue 5, the picture on the left was used as part of an article on schools in West Vancouver. Nobody has commented directly to the editor, but the grapevine tells him that at least one person has suggested that it is the wrong school - that it is not Dundarave School but a school in Vancouver of much the same vintage. The suggestion is useful in that it stresses a cardinal rule to be followed by all who collect archival material: Do not accept anything as authentic until it has been corroborated by at least three sources. The contributor, Laurie Speck, of Gibsons, has identified the picture by writing on the back, "Dundarave School, 1921" and one is sorely tempted to accept that as positive identification. The temptation must be resisted and confirmation sought from other sources. So v/e seek confirmation. There must be a few people around who went to Dundarave School and who can say yes it is or no it isn't. There may even be a few who have a picture of Dundarave School that could be used for comparison. Do look through your albums and see what you can find. And if you find anything, do let us know. Incidentally, do not stop with just this one subject. The Archives want all the pictures of West Vancouver places, events and people that you have - the originals if you are ready to part with them - copies if you are not. The Society will undertake to make the copies. ( Don't hesitate to donate because you think that th( Society is sure to have a picture of that. Things grow and change and your picture may serve to demonstrate the extent. When Mr. Tom Sewell contributed the picture of the Inglewood School Building shown on the right, the first reaction was we had the shot. But a second look shov;ed something new - the curved road way that goes up to the steps of the school. The roadway is not there now, and in earlier photos, it was not there - but in April 1948, there it is. We look forward to your co-operation in filling out the history of West Vancouver through the years.
