MRS. EFFIE ( Smallwood ) LEFFAIJX Dan Gruban, as a hobby, collects medals, and enhances his collection by learning whatever he can about the person to whom the medal was awarded. One of the medals he has acquired was presented to Mrs. Effie Lefeaux, an Army nurse during World War II, who was a resident of West Vancouver. Mrs. Lefeaux herself is now dead, but Mr. Gruban would like to talk to any relative or friend who might know something about the award. If you are in a position to help, and are willing to do so, you can contact Mr. Gruban by phoning 596 - 9491. CHANGES OF ADDRESS At the last meeting, your president was scolded, albeit mildly, for not having delivered a copy of the newsletter to one of our members who, as a result, did not learn of the meeting in time to attend. In this instance, the president was blameless. The newsletter had been mailed but had been returned to the Society with a notation from the Post Office; "Moved. No forwarding address". When this happens, the membership card is checked and the member phoned. In this case, there was a business phone, and it was possible to get the new address from the place of work, but not, apparently, in time for the meeting. Where there is only a tiome phone, it is often impossible to get the new address. So - please - if you move, send the Society a change of address card. We can then see that your new address is recorded, not only for the local newsletter but also for the B.C. HISTORICAL NEWS. FOURTH ANNUAL MEMORY CRUISE Plans are already well underway for the Fourth Annual Memory Cruise. The "M.V. HOLLYBURN" has been booked, the West Vancouver Adult Band spoken for, and the piper instructed to practice up. There will be some changes in the arrangements from last year: The cruise will be held on Sunday 3 June 1984, the day after Community Day. Last year many people indicated a desire to be on board but said their com,mit-rnents to Community Day stood in the way. This year - no problem. For a change of scenery, the cruise will begin with a historical cruise of Vancouver Harbour, with a commentary for those interested. If time permits, we will still follow the old ferry route to Ambleside. Tickets will be on sale at the Annual General Meeting - the usual $10.00
