- Description
- Photograph shows a re-enactment of First Nations awaiting European sailors to come ashore. Original note on photograph: "Narvaez Sesquicentennial Pageant Ambleside Park West Vancouver, BC. August 16, 1941. The renowned schooner 'Romance' sailed by her owner, Captain E.P. Green, is impersonating Narvaez's 'Santa Saturnina'. The Spanish navigator is about to come ashore to visit the Indians. HMCS 'Quesnelle' anchored beyond". A crowd of 12,000 watched (the largest ever known in West Vancouver). It was a brilliant summer's day. As a spectacle it was marvelous acting, but hardly true.
