Guidelines for Appropriate Usage.

The following guidelines represent appropriate usage and indicate whether or not additional approval must be gained from the copyright holder.

WVML Copyright or Public Domain

The Copyright of this image is either held by the West Vancouver Memorial Library or it has expired and is in the Public Domain.

These images may be used for the following purposes:

Personal, examples include home-decor, personal web pages.
Research, examples include private or academic study, and classroom use.
Criticism and review.
Non-Profit Use, i.e. a registered non-profit organization under the BC Society Act or as a charitable organization under the Income Tax Act.
Media Use, examples include newspapers, magazines, periodicals, or other news and journalism outlets.

All other uses must be approved by the West Vancouver Memorial Library. These include, but are not limited to:

Commercial use in print or online publication; video, film or T.V.; postcards, t-shirts, or greeting cards. Including the promotion of a specific business or product or placement on any items that are for sale.

Contact the WVML to seek permission to use an image that falls outside of the appropriate uses defined in this section by sending an email to digital@westvanlibrary.ca.

External Copyright - personal

The Copyright of this image is held by an external party. Please note that it may take some time to arrange additional permission for these images.

These images may be used for the following purposes:

Personal, examples include home-decor, personal web pages.
Research, examples include private or academic study, and classroom use.
Criticism and review.

All other uses must be approved by the Copyright holder. These include, but are not limited to:

Commercial use in print or online publication; video, film or T.V.; postcards, t-shirts, or greeting cards. Including the promotion of a specific business or product or placement on any items that are for sale.

External Copyright - organization

The Copyright of this image is managed by a specific organization.

These images may be used for the following purposes:

Personal, examples include home-decor, personal web pages.
Research, examples include private or academic study, and classroom use.
Criticism and review.

All other uses must be approved by the Copyright holder. These include, but are not limited to:

Commercial use in print or online publication; video, film or T.V.; postcards, t-shirts, or greeting cards. Including the promotion of a specific business or product or placement on any items that are for sale.
Non-Profit Use, i.e. a registered non-profit organization under the BC Society Act or as a charitable organization under the Income Tax Act.
Media Use, examples include newspapers, magazines, periodicals, or other news and journalism outlets.

Conditions of use.

By downloading an image from the West Vancouver Memorial Library’s Digital Collection you are agreeing to comply with the following conditions of use.

1. The image usage complies with the Guidelines for Appropriate Usage.

2. All reproductions must be credited to the West Vancouver Memorial Library (WVML) or copyright holder. Each individual item must be credited, either in close proximity to the image or in a special section devoted to credits.

3. No Transfer of Copyright. Users receive only a copy of the materials, and do not acquire any interest in the ownership of the copyright or other proprietary rights in the materials.

4. WVML retains all rights to reproductions, including the right to grant others permission to reproduce photographs.

5. Unless authorized in writing by the WVML and noted in the credit line, images shall be reproduced in their entirety and shall not be retouched or altered in any way which could affect their historical or artistic integrity.

6. Images used on a web site may not be more than 72 dpi.

7. All responsibility for possible copyright infringement and invasion of privacy arising from use of reproductions is assumed by the user. It is your responsibility to ensure compliance with the copyright law of the country in which you intend to use the reproductions. Please note that U.S. and other copyright law may differ from Canadian copyright law.

8. Users shall not publicly represent or imply that the WVML is participating in, or has sponsored, approved or endorsed the manner or purpose of the use of the materials.
